if you have writer's block, too...

you can read this New Yorker article, subtitled: Why Writers Stop Writing. Kathy and I are reading it right now, in unison, rather than working.

I totally have writer's block. This article will make you want to puke all over people like Trollope and Joyce Carol Oates, if you don't want to already.

I'm not done with it but maybe it will make me feel better.

Mostly when I have writer's block it is because I am trying to work on something I do not actually want to be working on. Either that thing is already done, or shouldn't be completed, and instead I should be working on something else.

Also, take this Trollope: Once I was trying to write 500 words a day, and everything I wrote was drivel. Dickhead.

I don't believe in writer's block. It sounds like a digestive disorder. All I learned from this overly long article is that if we lose our anonymity, we'll have no where to move. We're already in Chicago.

I didn't finish it either. It was super-long and ultimately way too boring. I wish the author had gotten writer's block midway through.
